OUR STORY

3rd Generation Family-Owned Business

Chausser's Farm has been a family run Sustainable Farming Operation for over 40 years. We are now in the 3rd generation of family farming. What was once a dairy operation with supporting field crops has moved to a wider variety mixed farming which now includes Livestock with our purebred Hereford Cattle and Dorset Sheep as well as rotational field crops (soya beans, corn and wheat).

Our Garlic

About 18 years ago, we introduced an annual planting of approximately 25 acres of garlic to our farming operations, primarily focusing on Music Garlic. We selected the Music variety for its pleasing taste and its exceptionally long shelf life among hardneck garlic.

In the past five years, we've added small amounts of several other varieties, but Music Garlic remains the cornerstone of our annual production, and we take great pride in it.

Garlic is planted from late September to mid-October and harvested from mid to late July. After harvesting, it is dried, with the first cured garlic available in early August. We begin shipping soon after, and most of our garlic is shipped by late December to minimize the need for refrigerated or heated transportation. Dry, cool storage at the destination can extend the garlic's shelf life into March and April.
